Speaker: Victorian Vogue - A Historical Fashion Show

This non profit organization of volunteers brings history to life. Authentic and reproduced fashions from the victorian era are modelled for us along with a commentary on the fashion details and the historical context that surrounds the outfits. Stories are linked to past events and notable people from Victoria BC. Victorian Vogue did a presentation for us in October 2016 and it was most fascinating. They have expanded their repertoire since then.

Speaker: Regina Akhankin

Topic: Beauty Within

Regina genuinely believes that beauty is everywhere, and every person is so unique and precious. Her mission is to cultivate cultural acceptance of any age and body type, especially the ones that are often rejected as not fitting into modern beauty standards. Regina says that we should focus on our inner beauty and personality, and avoid judging ourselves by our physical appearance.

Regina a is a local business owner, immigrant, and an artist. Originally from Moscow, Russia, she now works and lives on Vancouver Island, enjoying west coast lifestyle. Regina is an award-winning portrait photographer, and through her work and personal experience, she recognizes all the struggles that women still face in our society.

Regina will share her story about struggling with her personal body image and self confidence. After gaining over 40 pounds, she was still able to see beauty in the others, yet refused to see the beauty within herself. She will explain and how and why her mindset has changed, and what Canada and Canadian culture have to do with it.
